LANDOVER, MD – Chevrolet is proud to announce that G.J. Dixon, 31, of Scarsdale, NY is the Chevy-powered Rev It Up™ 2007 National Champion. Dixon drove both race-prepared Chevrolet Cobalts and Corvettes faster and more precisely than the 10,000 additional entrants in the world’s largest driving school and national racing competition to take the coveted title. As the Chevy-powered Rev It Up™ 2007 National Champion, Dixon will be awarded a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette, as well as a special Corvette-inspired “Jake” Electric Guitar by Paul Reed Smith, signed by Chevy’s American Le Mans Series Corvette Racing Team drivers.
“On behalf of Chevrolet, we’d like to congratulate G.J. Dixon, the Chevy-powered Rev It Up™ 2007 National Champion,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet General Manager. “After six exciting events, G.J. really showed us what our performance-oriented Cobalts and Corvettes can do, under a pressure-filled nationwide competition setting. Chevrolet had a great summer with the Chevy-powered Rev It Up™ 2007 automotive touring festival, and we look forward to more excitement to come!”
Dixon, who was the Chevy-powered Rev It Up™ 2007 New York/New Jersey Champion, returned to the D.C. event to better his score in the national competition. He not only improved his score, but the first time ever in Chevy-powered Rev It Up™ history, Dixon beat the Rev It UpTM 2007 pro driver’s score in the challenging Corvette Shootout with a time of 38.549 seconds (translating to a score of 1197 using the Rev It UpTM 2007 scoring system). This feat not only earned Dixon bragging rights, but an additional prize - a helmet signed by the entire Chevrolet Racing Team.
“I’m thrilled to be the Rev It UpTM 2007 national champion and cannot wait to get my hands on the 2008 Corvette,” said Dixon, a seven-year autocross veteran and automotive technician. “I’d like to thank everyone, especially Chevrolet, for their support of this incredible nationwide event. What a great time!”
The five additional city event winners, Ryan Buetzer, 23, of Long Beach, Calif. (San Francisco), Steve O’Blenes, 37, of Garden Grove, Calif. (El Toro), Christopher Ramey of Houston, Tex. (Houston), Dan Shields, 51, of Valrico, Fla. (Orlando), and Brian Priebe, 31, of Sulphur Springs, Tex. drove away with a variety of exciting prizes, including a two-day “Grand Prix Specialty” course for two people at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. Dixon won the New York/New Jersey event and also receives the event prize package.
Crossing the U.S., covering the San Francisco, Orange County (CA), Houston, Orlando, New York/New Jersey and Washington D.C. areas, the Chevy-powered Rev It UpTM 2007 events featured a full day of competition and fun geared towards the true automotive enthusiast. The competition was set up to offer all entrants of varying skill levels professional classroom instruction, followed by practice in race-prepared Chevrolet Cobalts. The top drivers of each day were entered into a challenging daily Corvette Shootout under the lights in Chevy’s legendary sports car.
Beyond the national competition, the Chevy-powered Rev It UpTM 2007 event was an opportunity for car enthusiasts – spectators and competitors – to immerse themselves in all things automotive, including taking rides in a 505-horsepower Corvette Z06 for a “Time Attack” run; testing reaction time and car control in an acceleration and braking contest behind the wheel of a 303-horsepower Impala or 395-horsepower TrailBlazer SS; test-driving the 2007 Corvette and the rest of Chevrolet’s performance lineup, including HHR, Silverado, Cobalt SS Supercharged and Tahoe, on custom-designed courses; checking out a variety of Chevrolet racing machines at the Chevy Racing Experience display; and experiencing the latest automotive technology at the Chevy Pavilion – including an up-close look at the dramatic Camaro Concept coupe and convertible.
